RENEWALS

The Texas Department of Public Safety has initiated an online procedure to allow renewal applicants to register for a renewal license and pay the state fee by credit card. Instead of receiving a renewal package from DPS, they will now send the licensee a Notice of Renewal (blue post card), which will give the licensee two options:

1) Register and pay their state fee online, or
2) Fill out the blue post card and request the renewal package.

In either option, the licensee must still take the continuing education course from a certified instructor. If you decide to use the online service, you will answer questions concerning continuing eligibility requirements and submit credit card payment using a secure web site page. You will then take the continuing education course and the instructor will furnish the necessary paperwork, along with a special envelope, which you will use to return the required documents to the DPS. The second option will basically follow the same procedure as now. After filling out and returning the blue card to the DPS, and after receiving the renewal package, you will take the required course and return the paperwork, along with the certified check for the renewal fee, to the DPS.
